As part of this mission, we have made significant investments in an ongoing series of initiatives designed to reduce environmental impacts, including:
- Partnering with Bullfrog Power and using their green electricity and natural gas products to reduce the CO2 emissions footprint of our Vancouver Head Office
- Retrofitting existing facilities with high-efficiency lighting, roofing and charging systems for our materials handling equipment
- Installing rainwater and defrost condensation collection systems and reduced flow faucets
- Improving management and monitoring of storm water
- Implementing comprehensive recycling programs (cardboard, paper, stretch wrap, refrigeration oil, steel and other metals, forklift batteries, printer cartridges, construction debris)
- Expanding use of more efficient and environmentally friendly refrigerants, such as ammonia
- Replacing standard efficiency motors with premium efficiency motors (and variable frequency drives, where appropriate)
- Transitioning towards a paperless office environment
- Educating our engineering teams and employees on ways to reduce energy consumption at their sites and giving them advanced tools, such as near-real-time monitoring, to keep consumption under control
- Ensuring all expansions and new buildings have as low an environmental impact as possible
